The national chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that the devil is using party members to cause havoc in the party.

Damagum, who stated this when he met with PDP state chairmen in Abuja, added that those causing crisis in the party should remember that there is karma.

The PDP state chairmen led by their forum chairman, Tony Aziegbemi (Edo) and forum secretary Edward Masha (Kaduna), had visited Damagum to register their loyalty to his leadership of the party.

While the party chairmen visited Damagum, Some PDP members staged a peaceful protest at the United States Embassy in Abuja, calling for international intervention to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy and prevent alleged drift toward a one-party state.

The demonstrators carried placards with inscriptions reading “Fix PDP, fix Nigeria, save our democracy,” “Stop party opposition intimidation,” and “Please save our democracy from intimidation,” among others.

The protest comes as the National Working Committee of the party split with groups announcing the suspension of each other.

The crisis started over the weekend, one faction led by Umar Damagum suspended national secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, and others. In turn, the Anyanwu camp backed by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister, Nyesom Wike, retaliated by suspending Damagum and several officials.

The Anyanwu camp has since taken over the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, while the holding of the November 15 national convention of party remains uncertain in the face of conflicting court judgements.

Meanwhile, Damagum while addressing the party chairmen, said the party is prepared to leave an enduring legacy where the formidable will emerge during our convention in Ibadan coming up on 15-16 this month.

“I also want to use this opportunity to call on our colleagues that the devil is using, to see wisdom in casting the devil in them because treachery, especially to an institution that has made you what you are today, will not heal. You may be lucky now, but there is a law of Karma.

“What goes around comes around. I think it is not late to see the need to do justice to this party that has given you all. Sometimes, when I resort to the ways of God, people think it is weakness. We exist because God exists.

We owe everything that we do to him. He is watching us. He will judge us by our behavior. I will leave this on this note. They say a word is enough for us,” he said.
