The leadership of Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has debunked the statement credited to its leader, Chief Olabode George, that 21 out of its 40 candidates for the Lagos State House of Assembly election in 2023 had been disqualified by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The leadership of the party in the state, in a statement signed by its publicity secretary, Hakeem Amode, said the statement was an embarrassment to it and assured all its candidates, members of the party and its supporters that there was no such notification from INEC.

“We make bold to say such news is a figment of imagination of mischievousness. The leadership of PDP is more prepared now than ever before to win the general elections in Lagos State and Nigeria and to give Nigerians a new lease of life better than what is currently obtained under APC and cannot afford to give room for disqualification of the party’s candidates.”

Chief George had in a statement signed by him on Sunday said 21 of the 40 House of Assembly members had been disqualified by INEC, because the electoral body said it did not monitor the primary that produced them, so they were disqualified.

Amode said, “Nigerians will recollect that the Independent National Electoral Commission ((INEC) in line with the amended electoral law published the list of candidates for the next elections and PDP candidates’ names were included in the list.

“This is the same as the information contained on the website of the commission as at the time of this press release. We are therefore surprised to read a news story credited to our leader, who should know better and not fuel discord that could demoralize our hardworking candidates who are putting everything into the project to rescue and reengineer the governance of our dear state Lagos.”
