Kebbi State governor, Nasir Idris, has announced the ‘rescue’ of 24 schoolgirls abducted from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko-Wasagu local government area of the State.

“The freed girls had been rescued unharmed and were on their way to the state capital,” Governor Idris said on Tuesday night during a special press briefing in Birnin Kebbi.

The girls were abducted on November 17, sparking widespread concern. Their rescue marks a significant breakthrough in efforts to combat insecurity in the region.

Security sources attributed the success to joint operations involving the military, police, local vigilantes, and intelligence units.

The rescued girls were expected to undergo medical checks and debriefing upon arrival in Birnin Kebbi, afterwhich they would be reunited with their families.
