Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced plans to acquire surveillance drones and other critical logistics to strengthen security operations along the border communities between Kano and Katsina States following recent bandit attacks.

The governor revealed this on Tuesday while assessing the preparedness of the Joint Task Force (JTF) at its three operational bases in Tsanyawa and Shanono Local Government Areas of the State.

Governor Yusuf, in a statement on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, said these would enhance intelligence gathering and ensure rapid response to security threats in the affected areas.

He appealed to residents to support security agencies with prompt and reliable information on the movements of bandits.

Yusuf also disclosed that President Bola Tinubu has responded positively to his request for federal intervention after he briefed him on the deteriorating security situation in the area.

“We are aware that they have been attacking innocent communities, especially here in Tsanyawa and Shanono Local Government Areas. Many innocent lives were taken away, and many innocent people were also taken to the bush. I assure you that, by the grace of God, those that were kidnapped will be brought back to their families,” the governor said.

He charged the JTF to intensify efforts to secure the release of abducted residents and assured the troops of improved welfare.

About five persons were reportedly abducted in Tsanyawa and 10 others in Shanono, while one woman lost her life during the attacks.

Describing the recent attacks as strange and unprecedented in Kano, Governor Yusuf said his government was working closely with security agencies to address the emerging threat.

“This type of insecurity in Kano State is new and alien. The government is doing everything possible, in collaboration with security agencies, to bring the situation under control,” he said.
