Kebbi State government has urged parents and guardians to ensure moral upbringing of their children by focusing on both Islamic and Western education in order to tackle out-of-school children in the state.

The demand was made by the deputy governor of Kebbi State,  Senator Abubakar Umar Tafida, at a closing ceremony of the 35th State Qur’anic Recitation Competition held at the Presidential Lodge in Birnin Kebbi.

He warned that life is facing serious challenges, particularly the increase in social vices through technological means, which have spoiled the good upbringing of our children, particularly youths.

Tafida, however, advised parents and guardians to always send their children to schools to obtain both Islamic and Western education rather than buying them phones and other unnecessary accessories which could be used to change their behaviour.

The deputy governor further commended traditional rulers, clerics and others for their constant prayers for the state and the nation’s peaceful coexistence.

He also urged those who won in the competition to be good ambassadors and demonstrate good behaviour while representing the state at the national level.

At the closing of the events, winners received cash and material gifts from the deputy governor and other important dignitaries.
