In a bid to strengthen capacity and deepen understanding of philanthropic efforts, the Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society of Nigeria has organised a three-day training programme on faith and philanthropy for religious leaders from various faiths.

The initiative, which aims to equip participants from diverse religious backgrounds with practical tools to promote faith-driven philanthropy and foster sustainable social impact across the nation, was inaugurated yesterday in Abuja by the chief missioner and CEO of Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society, Imam Faud Adeyemi.

Sixty religious leaders from various faiths are participating in the event, which is supported by the MacArthur Foundation.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the event, Imam Faud stated, “We want to promote what I call prosperity. We need to help ourselves in this country. We have realised that government alone cannot provide all we need.

We must expose ourselves to the tools and methods that will enable us to source resources independently of government support.

“When we train ourselves and others here, they will return home to implement these teachings and train others, thereby spreading the message further.”

When asked why the programme includes leaders from other faiths rather than focusing solely on the Muslim community, Imam Faud responded, “Poverty does not recognise religion. If you seek happiness, you must ensure the happiness of those around you. If you desire comfort, you must help others find comfort too. Focusing solely on oneself may lead to success, but it will not bring peace of mind. Poverty and insecurity transcend religious boundaries; why not work together?”

“We cannot dwell on negative perceptions of one another. When we commit to growing and prospering together, we will unconsciously pray for one another’s success.”
