The federal government has unveiled the National Development Plan 2026–2030, a five-year framework designed to drive Nigeria’s ambition of building a $1 trillion economy through job creation, increased productivity and shared prosperity.
The Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite, disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Uzoka-Anite said the plan was presented at the 32nd Nigerian Economic Summit, held in Abuja from October 26 to 28, where it received the endorsement of the private sector.
“The National Development Plan is a statutory document that lays out a framework for achieving the $1 trillion economy through job creation, productivity, and shared prosperity,” she said.
The minister described the Nigerian Economic Summit as a public-private sector partnership between the Federal Government, represented by the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, and the Nigerian Economic Summit Group.
She said the summit provided an opportunity for stakeholders to consider the government’s development priorities and the programmes under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to her, Vice President Kashim Shettima represented the President at the summit.
Uzoka-Anite said the private sector received the National Development Plan positively and endorsed it, providing support for the government’s framework for achieving its economic target.
The 2026–2030 plan is intended to guide national development priorities over the five-year period, with job creation, productivity and shared prosperity identified as key pathways towards the $1 trillion economy ambition.
