The Kano State Police Command has assured residents of adequate security before, during and after the Christmas and New Year celebrations, following the conclusion of comprehensive security arrangements across the state.

Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori gave the assurance on Monday after a strategic meeting with operational commanders, including heads of departments, area and tactical commanders, as well as divisional police officers, to fine-tune plans for the festive period.

According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi  Kiyawa, the measures are in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for nationwide deployment of personnel and operational assets to ensure a peaceful and crime-free celebration.

The commissioner ordered intensified patrols, visibility policing, intelligence-led operations and confidence-building engagements across Kano State, noting that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, have put in place robust arrangements to safeguard lives and property.

CP Bakori directed commanders to ensure adequate security at worship centres, recreational facilities and other public places, while also maintaining round-the-clock patrols and effective traffic control to guarantee smooth vehicular movement throughout the festivities. He further stressed the need to strengthen intelligence gathering to prevent criminal activities proactively.

The police also warned residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or items to the nearest police station or through designated emergency lines. The command cautioned against reckless driving, the use of fireworks, unauthorised horse riding and any conduct capable of breaching public peace.

Parents and guardians were advised to closely monitor children during outings to prevent accidents or missing-person incidents, while underage and unlicensed driving was expressly prohibited.

Commending the people of Kano for their continued cooperation, the commissioner urged residents to partner with security agencies by promptly providing helpful information, assuring that the command remains fully committed to ensuring a safe and peaceful festive season for all.
