Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has openly expressed his team’s intense desire to secure victory, as they continue to lead the Premier League title race. The Gunners faced a challenging encounter on Saturday, narrowly defeating Brighton 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium.

Captain Martin Ødegaard opened the scoring in the first half with a precise low drive, before the Gunners doubled their lead shortly after the interval, courtesy of an own goal by Georginio Rutter. However, Brighton responded with a goal from Diego Gomez, and they nearly levelled the score, only to be thwarted by an outstanding save from goalkeeper David Raya.

Reflecting on the tense atmosphere following Brighton’s goal, Arteta remarked, “That’s a willingness to win! We all want to win so badly. Now, I don’t want to lose what we have, and we must continue to play with the intention to score and display composure. We should have netted a third goal; we had two massive chances to make it 3-1, which would have changed the dynamics of the game. We didn’t take those chances, so we must endure a bit longer.”

As a result of this victory, Arsenal maintain a two-point lead at the top of the table, keeping them ahead of Manchester City.
