An early-morning explosion at the General Hospital, Bagudo, Kebbi State, on Tuesday, triggering panic among residents.
Police have however assured that the security situation was under control.
The Kebbi State Police Command said the explosion occurred around midnight within the hospital premises.
The Command said a joint security team comprising the police, military and local vigilantes was immediately deployed, while the area was cordoned off.
Explosive Ordnance Disposal and CBRN experts were currently assessing the scene while Police confirmed that no life was lost, although a building in the hospital’s staff quarters was damaged.
Occupants were reportedly safely evacuated before the blast.
Spokesman of the Command, SP Bashir Usman, said the State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Sani, has reinforced security around the facility with additional tactical units as investigations continue to determine the cause of the explosion.
Residents were urged to remain calm and avoid the area to allow security operatives carry out their duties.
Meanwhile, the police also confirmed a separate attack on Monday in Gebbe community, Shanga Local Government Area, where gunmen reportedly fired sporadically, forcing residents to flee.
SP Usman said tactical teams have been deployed to the area to assess the situation, with details on casualties and damage to be released later.
