The vice chancellor Kashim Ibrahim University Maiduguri, Borno State, Prof Babagana Gutti, has disclosed that 28 students graduated with First Class degrees in the institution’s combined convocation holding today in Maiduguri.
At a pre-convocation press conference in Maiduguri, Prof Gutti said the First Class graduands, alongside over 2,000 other graduands, will be part of the ceremony.
Prof Gutti said the First Class graduands were from three different academic sessions since the inception of the state university in 2016.
“First Set – 2022/2023 Academic Session: In this set, the university graduated 523 students, out of which, five graduated with First Class. Second Set – 2023/2024 Academic Session: The university graduated 489 students, among which 10 graduated with First Class across four faculties
“Third Set – 2024/2025 Academic Session: In this set, the university is graduating 1,282 students, out of which 13 students are graduating with First Class across the four faculties.
“In all the three sets, there is a sizeable number of students who graduated with Second Class Upper Division, Second Class Lower Division, Third Class and Pass degrees, respectively,” the vice chancellor said.
He disclosed that a pre-convocation lecture titled “Insecurity and Environmental Fragility in the Lake Chad Basin Areas: Education, Health and Sustainable Agriculture Tripartite to the Rescue” was delivered yesterday by the former vice chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Prof Michael Faborode.
According to the VC, prominent personalities from within and outside Borno State are expected to grace the occasion while the special guest of honour is Vice President Kashim Shettima.
He added that the visitor, Governor Babagana Zulum, has approved the appointment of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi (Ojaja II), as the new chancellor of the institution. The conferment of degrees and presentation of prizes will be preceded by the investiture of the new chancellor as well as the conferment of Honourary Doctorate of Letters on the chancellor and the pro-chancellor, Alh (Dr) Muhammadu Indimi.
