Two persons have lost their lives in a fatal road crash involving a motorclistt, who rammed into a convoy of vehicles ferrying journalists to the 2026 Thanksgiving Ceremony organised by the Akwa Ibom State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Sunday.
The incident, according to witnesses, happened along the Idoro Road intersection connecting Uyo, the State capital with Abak.
The New Year Thanksgiving Service was slated for Qua Iboe Church (QIC), Abak Intense community in Abak local government area of the State.
“The bike operator was carrying a passenger, and along Idoro Road by Pepsi junction, they crashed headlong into the convoy as the cyclist tried to navigate his way out.
“He suddenly lost control and veered into the convoy, and the resultant crash led to the death of the motorcyclist and his passenger,” Uduak Ephraim, one of the journalists, narrated.
LEADERSHIP gathered the unfortunate development has caused outrage among the local youths, vowing revenge against any journalistic passing through the route to Abak.
“For the safety of our members who are coming to Abak for the NUJ Thanksgiving Service, kindly avoid using Idoro Road by Pepsi Junction, through Ukpom Abak Road.
“There’s a fatal accident that has claimed the lives of two people in Abak, who were on a motor bike. The bike ran into our convoy.
“Please share the message to protect our members, in case of any revenge by the community people, please,” a concerned journalist cautioned other colleagues.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Timfon John, was yet to respond to the development as at the time of filing this report.
