The Ogun State Police Command has filed a six-count charge of cyberbullying and dissemination of false information against activist, Adetoun Onajobi, popularly known as ‘Just Adetoun’, before the Federal High Court in Abeokuta.

The Police accused Onajobi of using social media and other internet platforms to publish false and malicious content against the Ogun State Government and its governor, Dapo Abiodun, in violation of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said Onajobi was invited for questioning on January 2, 2026, but failed to honour the invitation.

“On 2nd January, 2026, the Ogun State Police Command invited Adetoun Onajobi for an interview to afford her the opportunity to respond to allegations arising from her online bullying of the Ogun State Governor,” Babaseyi said.

According to him, the female activist, through her lawyer, later claimed she was medically indisposed and unable to appear, attaching a medical report purportedly issued by a doctor. However, the police said subsequent investigations revealed that the medical document was forged.

“Discreet investigations by the Police confirmed the falsity of the claims contained in the medical report,” the statement noted.

The Command added that the medical doctor who allegedly issued the report was arrested and confessed that it was fabricated at Onajobi’s request.

“The doctor subsequently admitted that the entire medical report was a ruse, crafted at the direction of the suspect, Adetoun Onajobi, during a phone conversation between them,” Babaseyi said.

The doctor has since been arraigned before a Magistrates’ Court in the state for conspiracy, uttering a false document, and obstructing the course of justice, the statement added.

Meanwhile, the police said Onajobi has since gone into hiding.

“The suspect, Adetoun Onajobi, has remained evasive and has rebuffed every invitation extended to her by the Police. Her current whereabouts are unknown,” Babaseyi stated, adding that the Command would “exhaust all lawful means” to bring her before the court.

The police also cautioned that while citizens are entitled to free expression, such rights do not extend to criminal conduct.

“Constitutionally protected activities such as free speech have lawful limits and do not grant immunity from criminal conduct,” the statement read.

Recall that Onajobi was invited by the police following a petition over videos in which she criticised Governor Abiodun’s performance. In one of the viral clips, the Ogun-born activist accused the state government of neglecting victims of a December 2025 road crash involving Nigerian-born British boxer Anthony Joshua, in which two of his trainers died.

Onajobi alleged that the state had “no single functional ambulance” at the time of the incident and claimed the governor preferred “spending public funds on parties rather than addressing urgent public needs.” She also criticised the alleged procurement of SUVs for local government chairmen while emergency services remained underfunded.

The Police said investigations were ongoing, adding that other individuals suspected of aiding the alleged dissemination of false information are also being trailed.
