Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia are set to travel to Katsina to face Katsina United Football Club in a crucial Matchday 24 fixture of the Nigeria Premier Football League, aiming to recover from a disappointing two-match winless run at home.

‘Umu Chineke’ failed to capitalise on their home advantage, suffering their first home defeat of the season against Nasarawa United, followed by a surprising 1-1 draw with struggling Wikki Tourists of Bauchi at the Umuahia Township Stadium. This recent draw has sparked considerable frustration among the Warriors’ supporters.

In response, the club’s Technical Adviser, Imama Amapakabo, has urged for calm and expressed hope for a positive outcome in Katsina. “We have a very long journey to Katsina, so it’s all about staying calm,” Amapakabo stated. He added, “We’ll travel to Katsina, rest and, like every other league game, we’ll play it and try to get something there.”

The upcoming match is anticipated to be a challenging encounter. ‘The Changi Boys’ will be eager to assert their dominance on home turf, while Abia Warriors will need to maintain focus and leverage their impressive away form, having secured five victories on the road this season – a league best.

Statistically, the Warriors have averaged 0.87 goals scored per game and conceded 0.65, in contrast to Katsina United’s average of 0.78 goals scored and 0.87 conceded. After 23 Premier League matches, the Umuahia side currently sit in 4th place with 38 points, eight points clear of Katsina United in 11th position.
