Give Security Chiefs Ultimatum To End Insecurity, ACF Tells Tinubu

The apex northern socio-cultural organisation, Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should, as a matter of urgency, hand over an ultimatum or deadline to security chiefs and his entire security team to end the mass killings, abductions and other security challenges facing the country.

ACF, while condemning the killings and abductions in Kwara and other parts of the country, said the security architecture on the ground was not working.

Reacting to the recent killings and abductions in Kwara and other places, ACF National Publicity Secretary, Prof. T. A. Muhammad-Baba, told LEADERSHIP on Sunday that the forum would meet on Tuesday or Wednesday this week to review the state of the nation and come out with a position.

According to ACF, Tinubu’s directive to security operatives to go after killers whenever there was an attack did not produce any result.

“The ACF is going to meet on Tuesday, or is it Wednesday. And there will be a review of the state of the nation. And I’m sure this issue of insecurity has been listed. I would rather wait until we meet to issue a comprehensive communique. We’ll be addressing all these issues. So I have my ideas, but I would rather we wait. But the simple thing is that the government may deceive itself, but the security architecture we have on the ground is definitely not working”

ACF further said, “And it is not working because of the daily body counts everywhere and so on. And all we see is the President issuing terse statements, commiserating, condemning the killings, and then asking the security forces to do something about it. Nobody, to the best of our knowledge, has seen the result of the President’s directive to the security forces to go after the killers.

“Have they been caught? Have they been prosecuted? Are they still being investigated? And so on. Every time this happens, there is no result. We are just entertained, so to speak. Or rather, we are just greeted by a template of condemnation and a directive to the security forces to go after the killers.”

We don’t have it. So impunity is reigning. And probably the miscreants are aware, or have become aware, or have become accustomed to the new normal. That is to say, the President will issue a statement, and nothing will happen. So if you can exercise patience, we are going to come out with a position on the state of the nation”

“And of course, the number one issue on the state of the nation, as far as the general public is concerned, is security, or rather, more correctly, insecurity. And of course, for politicians, their number one agenda is the 2027 elections. We don’t know, but we will address this issue this week. So that’s what I would say”

ACF added, “We have called for that several times in my recollection in the last two years. Every time something happens, and the President issues a notice, we call on the President to attach deadlines and deliverables. When people are appointed, they must be given a clear directive to produce results by a specific time. Anytime, something happens we say this something but it has never happened you just appoint people and the party goes on and that’s all we have severally called that all the security agents must and all new appointees, new deployments must be given on the basis of a timeline to produce results but of course we are not a government agency we just wait in the hope that the government will listen Okay” the forum maintained.
