Governor Malam Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has inaugurated the construction of 55 housing units along Ibrahim Aliyu Bypass Road in Dutse, the state capital.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the project, Governor Namadi announced that the state government has released a N2 billion loan to the State Housing Development Authority for estate development.

He stated that the government approved the funds to encourage the authority to build houses and sell them to interested buyers, in accordance with the established framework designed to make decent shelter available and affordable for all.

“Besides this project, there are other housing projects being undertaken by the state government in various cities and local government headquarters, in line with the government’s 12-point agenda,” he said.

“The housing projects have multiple social and economic impacts. To leverage this advantage, the government has directed the Housing Authority to engage 135 youths under a special artisan and skill training programme for POP and painting work in the project.”

The commissioner for Land, Housing, Regional and Urban Development, Hon. Ahmed Garba Maikudi, disclosed that the state government delivered 550 housing units in 2024 across the state. Currently, 600 housing units are under implementation in 2025, while approval has already been secured for the construction of another 600 housing units in 2026.

He maintained that the housing programme is not merely projections; they are funded, structured, and phased projects designed to systematically address the housing deficit in Jigawa State.

Hon Maikudi added that the government also intends to acquire 126 housing units from the Federal Housing Authority along the Three-Star Hotel axis in Dutse. “This bold step strengthens the housing stock in the state capital and reinforces our urban renewal objectives,” he stated.
