Three people have been remanded at Agodi Correctional Centre, Ibadan, Oyo State, for assaulting officials of the state fire service agency while on official duty.
They were arraigned at the Ejioku Magistrate’s Court yesterday for the assault on fire officers at Oki.
The accused were also charged with conspiracy and conduct likely to breach public peace.
Three were arranged while others were at large. They are currently remanded at Agodi prison. The case is adjourned till 12th March, 2026.
It would be recalled that the suspects attacked officials of the Oyo State Fire Service Agency with dangerous weapons while trying to discharge their civic responsibilities at Atari-Agbon, Olodo, Ibadan.
The Special Adviser to the governor of Fire Reform/Chairman Fire Services Agency, Dr Moroof Akinwande, who confirmed the incident, said the emergency call was received at exactly 19:44hrs on Sunday through a telephone call from Mr Olalekan Oderinu ( CREST FM) about a petrol tanker accident at the above address.
He said the firefighters, led by ACFS Bamidele Samsudeen, were promptly mobilised and deployed to the incident scene.
Upon arrival, it was a MACK trailer tanker with regd.no KSH329XA loaded with 45,000litres of Premium motor spirit (PMS), which swerved and crossed an open road hindering the vehicular movement.
“Our officers got to work immediately by applying chemical foam compound with the aid of other preventive equipment, so as not to allow an explosion to occur.
“The operation was professionally carried out successfully, but it was during the process of making up our equipment that looters started attacking firemen with dangerous weapons such as broken bottles, stones, cutlasses and others.
“The firefighters sustained various degrees of injuries, with one with a serious injury on his head. It even took us almost an hour before we could rescue him from the scene of the incident due to the activity of the suspected looters and hoodlums, which was chaotic.
“The first hospital that we took him to, they complained that they would not be able to attend to him because the hooligans could invade their hospital and vandalise their facilities, as is their usual practice.
“He has been moved to another hospital, and he is responding to treatment.
“The ugly incident has been reported at Iyana Ofa Police Station, and some arrests have been carried out for prosecution. The investigation is still ongoing to make more arrests.
