The Enemona Achema Foundation has raised the alarm over what it described as a forceful removal of its Chairman, Stephen Akpa Achema, from a medical facility in Abuja by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force despite an existing court restraining order.

In a statement made available through his verified social media account, yesterday, the Foundation’s spokesman, Omale Theophilus Ocholi, said the incident occurred on February 17, 2026, at about 7:45 p.m. when officers allegedly from the Force Headquarters stormed Ward/Room 213 of Nizamiye Hospital Abuja and whisked Achema back into custody.

According to the Foundation, Engr. Dr. Achema had earlier been invited by the police over a financial dispute involving funds owed by certain individuals and the steps he took to recover them.

While in custody, he reportedly complained of severe manhandling and violations of his rights, concerns that led to his hospital admission and preparations for major surgical procedures.

The Foundation described the removal as “highly unfortunate,” adding that it had triggered widespread reactions among supporters and the general public

Ocholi emphasized that the organization remains committed to peaceful engagement despite the tension generated by the incident.

He appealed to the Inspector-General of Police to investigate the conduct of the officers involved, especially regarding matters touching on human rights, medical ethics and lawful procedure. “Institutions are strengthened not by silence over controversy but by transparent review and corrective action,” he added

The spokesman disclosed that the Foundation’s legal team is actively pursuing constitutional measures to ensure justice and due process. “Our source as a nation is the Constitution and the rule of law,” he said, warning that abandoning these principles in moments of strain could set dangerous precedents.

Ocholi urged supporters to remain calm, insisting that civil unrest would only harm innocent citizens. “When two elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers,” he cautioned.

The Foundation reaffirmed that it does not support confrontation. Instead, it encourages dialogue, institutional accountability and judicial review as pathways to resolution. “However long the night, the dawn will break,” he said, expressing confidence that due process would prevail.
