After about 10 years of prosecution, the long arm of the law has eventually caught up with a randy father, one Okon Jimmy Ama, a commercial driver and mechanic from Ikot Ekop village, in Mkpat Enin local government area of Akwa Ibom State.

Ama has been sentenced to a combined 24-year imprisonment for incest, raping and assaulting his two biological daughters, aged 13 and 16.

The 51-year-old was convicted and sentenced by the State High Court, Uyo, presided over by Hon. Justice Winifred Effiong.

The particulars of the case showed that the ugly incident occurred in 2015, “when Ama repeatedly molested his daughters, aged 13 and 16 by having carnal knowledge of them severally.”

Evidence presented revealed that he also used a car fan belt to beat one of his daughters and later disposed of the evidence in a pit toilet.

Justice Effiong, therefore, convicted Ama on all counts and sentenced him to seven-year imprisonment on counts 1 and 2 – incest by male, three years for assault occasioning bodily harm and 14 years for rape, holding that “the sentences are to run concurrently.”

Prosecuting Counsel from the State Ministry of Justice, Ofonime Idio, Esq., who is the Chief State Counsel, described the judgement as “a strong statement against sexual abuse and a victory for justice in the State.”
