Borno State governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has appealed to the people of the state to forgive any shortcomings he may have exhibited while serving them, calling for unity and mutual understanding.

Governor Zulum made the appeal yesterday during a special Ramadan Iftar at the Government House in Maiduguri, where he hosted members of the Borno Elders Forum, security agencies, and other senior government officials.

The Iftar gathering, organised in the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan, provided an atmosphere of reflection, unity, and constructive engagement between the state government and respected elder statesmen.

“This is the month of Ramadan, the month of forgiveness. We should have a large heart to forgive one another. In the course of discharging my duties, I may have stepped on the toes of many, knowingly or unknowingly. I therefore appeal to all of you, and to the good people of Borno State, to forgive my shortcomings,” the Governor said.

Governor Zulum expressed deep appreciation to members of the Borno Elders Forum, security agencies, and senior government officials for their consistent guidance, counsel, and support to his administration.

He stressed the importance of collective responsibility, sustained consultation, and unity of purpose in addressing the state’s challenges, particularly in the areas of security, post-insurgency reconstruction, and socio-economic recovery.

As the political season approaches, the governor called on all stakeholders to embrace issue-based politics devoid of bitterness and rancour.

“As the electioneering campaign draws near, I urge all of us to play politics without bitterness. We are all indigenes of this state; let us not abuse or fight one another.
