Youths in Ondo State under the aegis of the Oodua Progressive Youth League (OPYL) have demanded intervention from the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the crisis triggered by the conduct of the party’s state congress despite a restraining order by the Federal High Court sitting in Akure.
The group warned that allowing the dispute to fester could deepen divisions within the party in Ondo State and lead to prolonged litigation.
In a statement issued on yesterday, its general secretary, Wale Abdulwaheed, described the development as deeply concerning.
The group noted that the decision to proceed with the congress amid a subsisting court order had generated tension and uncertainty among party stakeholders.
According to the group, the alleged defiance of the court injunction has heightened anxiety within the state chapter, with some aggrieved members reportedly considering legal action and the formation of parallel structures.
OPYL stressed that respect for judicial pronouncements is non-negotiable, especially for a ruling party, adding that obedience to court orders strengthens democracy and reinforces public confidence in political institutions.
The group said “The APC is a law-abiding party built on democratic principles. It has always projected itself as a party that respects the rule of law and constitutional order. That reputation must not be compromised under any circumstance.
“Respect for judicial pronouncements is not negotiable. As a ruling party, the APC must lead by example. Obedience to court orders strengthens democracy and reinforces public confidence in our institutions.”
The youth body cautioned that if the issues arising from the congress are not carefully managed, they could snowball into factional divisions and political instability within the Ondo APC.
The group further expressed concern that the lingering dispute could undermine the party’s operational structure and electoral prospects in Ondo State if not addressed promptly.
It therefore called on the party’s National Working Committee to urgently review the situation, engage relevant stakeholders and take decisive steps to restore unity and discipline in the state chapter.
”This is the moment for decisive intervention. The national body should review the situation, engage all stakeholders, and ensure that unity and discipline are restored,” the youth group said.
