Oliseh Backs Osimhen, Lookman To End Nigeria’s Trophy Drought

Former Nigeria manager Sunday Oliseh has heaped praise on Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, declaring them “top talents” capable of leading the Super Eagles to a new era of success.

However, the ex-international made it clear that while their club performances—particularly in the Champions League for Galatasaray and Atletico Madrid—are admirable, the ultimate measure of greatness for the national team will be winning tournaments.

In the latest edition of his Global Football Insights Podcast, Oliseh pointed to the pair as the catalysts needed to inspire the rest of the squad.

“We have two top Nigerian players currently excelling in the Champions League. Osimhen is doing well, and Lookman is also doing exceptionally well,” he said.

The former midfielder laid down the gauntlet, insisting that individual accolades must now translate to team trophies. “All we need now is for these two top players to lead the team and for the others to follow, and you will have it.”

Oliseh’s comments build on the foundation laid by the duo during the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco, where their efforts were instrumental in securing a bronze medal for the Super Eagles.
