Troops of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Special Intervention Battalion 7, in conjunction with 8 Division Strike Team, under the Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have killed three terrorists in Kadam Forest.
They were neutralised during an engagement with a notorious terrorist network affiliated with the Lakurawa terrorists in Tangaza local government area, Sokoto State.
A statement by the acting deputy director, Army Public Relations 8 Division, Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt-Col. Olaniyi Osoba said the operation was initiated following credible intelligence that over 100 terrorists had converged on Kadam Forest to coordinate attacks and kidnappings on the communities and transport their abducted victims to their strongholds.
He said the troops, acting on the intelligence, mobilised to intercept the terrorist advance and made contact at approximately 1200 hours.
Osoba said that during the ensuing firefight, the terrorists attempted a rear-flanking manoeuvre, which the troops responded to with superior firepower, effectively neutralising the threat and maintaining tactical dominance throughout the engagement.
According to Osoba, subsequent exploitation operations into the forest, confirmed the neutralisation of three terrorists, with several others believed to have sustained gunshot wounds during their escape.
The troops recovered one PKT machine gun, two AK-47 rifles, 350 rounds of PKT ammunition,111 rounds of 7.62 Special, three magazines, two radios, three motorcycles and a mobile phone.
He said follow-on operations were ongoing to confirm additional enemy casualties and recover further materiel.
He added that troops’ morale remains high, with fighting efficiency assessed as strong and unwavering.
