Properties estimated at about N17 million were saved from destruction by firefighters from the Federal Fire Service at Agada A’tah, Magami area of Jalingo metropolis, Taraba State.

The firefighters who contained and prevented the blaze from spreading to nearby buildings, stocked with different types of goods, saved properties worth millions of naira.

The command’s public relations officer, Mr Sylvanus Mikailu, disclosed this in a statement he issued in Jalingo, noting that the incident was reported at about 8:30am, prompting the immediate mobilisation of firefighters to the scene.

According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was caused by an electrical surge in a two-bedroom residential apartment belonging to one Mr. Usman Abdullahi.

“The affected building, measuring approximately 50 by 100 feet, was used strictly for residential purposes,” the statement said.

Mr. Mikailu explained that the distress call was placed by one Mu’azu Bako, who led to the deployment of firefighting personnel led by Saidu Kabiru.

“On arrival, the team conducted a rapid assessment of the situation before launching an aggressive fire suppression operation,” he added.

He noted that the firefighters successfully contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to neighbouring buildings.

Members of the public were, however urged to promptly report fire emergencies by contacting the command on 07064454730 or the national emergency line 112, the statement said.

The incident, LEADERSHIP recalls, occurred just a few days after a Catholic church was gutted by fire in Wukari Local Government Area of the state.
