NNPP Members Celebrate Abuja Court Victory Against Kwankwaso Faction

Members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) on Wednesday gathered at the office of its founder, Boniface Aniebonam, in Apapa, Lagos, to celebrate a High Court ruling in Abuja against the Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso-led faction.

The Federal Capital Territory High Court had directed INEC to recognise the Agbo Major-led National Working Committee of the NNPP and reject the Kwankwasiya Movement faction led by Kwankwaso. Members of the party were seen dancing and giving thanks for the judicial victory.

In response, the Kwankwasiya Movement’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ladipo Johnson, criticised the ruling as “patently illegal and logically defiant,” adding that the group intends to appeal.

Speaking to journalists, Aniebonam condemned attacks on judges, noting that any appeal must follow the pending Appeal Court case in Owerri, Imo. He explained that Kwankwaso and elder Buba Galadima joined the party in 2022 under a Memorandum of Understanding, which had ended, and described their current actions as attempts to hijack the party.

Aniebonam added that the ruling clarifies party ownership issues and highlights reasons behind political shifts, including Governor Abbah Yusuf’s defection to the APC.
