The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has ratified its ward, local government, state, and zonal congresses, affirming a zoning formula for national elective positions as it declared itself fully prepared for the upcoming national convention and a return to purposeful national leadership.
These resolutions were contained in a communique issued at the end of the party’s 107th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Monday, with the caretaker leadership describing the gathering as a defining moment of renewal, discipline, and unity.
In the communique, which was signed by the chairman of the National Caretaker Working Committee, Abdulrahman Mohammed, and the committee’s secretary, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, NEC expressed satisfaction with the conduct of congresses across the country.
The NEC commended party leaders and stakeholders for what it described as commitment, discipline, and adherence to due process.
“NEC commended Party leaders, electoral committees, stakeholders, and members for their commitment, discipline, and adherence to due process, which ensured peaceful, transparent, and credible exercises nationwide,” the communique reads.
The NEC also reviewed the ongoing electronic registration of members, reaffirming its commitment to a comprehensive, credible, and technology-driven membership database.
Party members across the federation were urged to actively participate in the exercise.
On the contentious issue of zoning, the NEC formally affirmed the zoning formula for national elective positions, stating that it was adopted in line with the party’s long-standing principles of equity, fairness, inclusiveness, and national balance.
According to the communique, the arrangement will serve as the guiding framework for the forthcoming national convention.
Speaking on the resolutions, Abdulrahman Mohammed described the NEC meeting as a critical milestone, noting that the party had moved beyond its recent legal and political challenges.
“The recent judicial pronouncements, approached with a spirit of reconciliation and inclusiveness, have further reinforced our commitment to unity. There is no victor and no vanquished only a shared commitment to rebuild, reposition, and strengthen our party,” he said.
He further announced that the sale of nomination forms for the national convention had commenced, urging interested aspirants to comply with the approved guidelines and timelines.
The NEC also set the theme for the upcoming national convention as “A Convention of Inclusiveness, Unity and Renewal,” reaffirming the party’s readiness to ensure a successful, credible, and transparent exercise.
In its concluding remarks, the NEC reiterated the supremacy of the party and called on all members to remain united and committed to the collective interest of the PDP.
“NEC expressed confidence in the renewed strength, unity, and organizational capacity of the Party and assured members and Nigerians of PDP’s readiness to provide purposeful leadership and national direction,” the communique stated.
The meeting, which held amid heightened anticipation over the party’s leadership structure, saw NEC members underscore the importance of discipline and internal democracy as the PDP seeks to reposition itself ahead of future elections.
