The chairman of the nine-member investigative panel and commissioner for Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, revealed this to journalists yesterday after the panel’s inaugural sitting in Zuru.
Kebbi explained that the committee summoned all the hospital staff and drilled them on the incident, adding that, “We also invited the parents of deceased patients and other stakeholders in Zuru Emirate Council in order to know the remote cause(s) of the death of the two female patients between the ages of three and six.
They reportedly lost their lives on March 18 as a result of negligence on the part of some nurses in the hospital.
The committee confirmed the arrest of two nurses allegedly involved in the act, who are currently under investigation by the police in Birnin Kebbi.
Kebbi also disclosed that Governor Nasir Idris had donated N10 million to the parents of the deceased to alleviate the trauma of the tragedy.
The money was handed over to them at the Palace of the Emir of Zuru by the panel’s chairman, on behalf of the governor.
