Zamfara State Police Command says normalcy has returned to some communities rescued from bandits.
It stressed that Governor Lawal Dauda and the judiciary’s support facilitated the speedy prosecution of hundreds of bandits arrested.
Speaking with LEADERSHIP Friday on behalf of the command, the spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said, “My commissioner of police, C.P. Ibrahim Maikaba, who is now currently promoted as AIG, Logistics and Supply, usually deploys some measures to areas that are being deserted by their inhabitants. This is achieved through strategic communication with leaders after which mobile police officers are deployed to protect all those villages which contributed significantly in reducing displacement of people from their various vulnerable communities. “
He cited communities like Zebri in Maradu local government area which is close to Shinkafi and with almost 10,000 people there which were earlier displaced but now back home.
“Another community is Peggen Mahi with over 10,000 residents which was displaced in 2025, and all over 10,000 inhabitants were displaced, again the Commissioner of Police also deployed a unit of anti-kidnapping with the new APCs that were given to us by the Force headquarters to resettle the community and secure them,” PPRO Abubakar maintained.
On level of insecurity under Governor Dauda Lawal, the Zamfara Police Command revealed that “before May 2023 we usually receive more than 10 cases of kidnapping on the highways especially around Tsafe within one month, but now it’s once in a bluemoon.”
He commended the speedy trial of banditry suspects by the Zamfara Judiciary stressing that hundreds of bandits and their informants have been prosecuted.
