Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen will sport a new protective device when he returns to action for Galatasaray, adding a second layer of armor to his iconic look.
The 27-year-old forward suffered a hand fracture following a collision with Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté during their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash last week.
After the incident, Osimhen was granted a week off to consider his options before ultimately deciding to undergo surgery earlier this week.
By opting for surgery, Osimhen will return to action significantly sooner than if he had allowed the injury to heal naturally a major boost for Galatasaray as they push for a Turkish domestic double in the final weeks of the season.
While Osimhen is expected to return to the pitch toward the end of April, his forearm will likely not be fully healed by then.
However, it will be stable enough for him to compete. To prevent a relapse or further injury, the Nigerian international will be required to wear a protective device.
Osimhen is already renowned for the iconic mask he wears to protect his face following a 2021 injury; now, he will add a second piece of armor for his forearm. According to Winner Galatasaray, if his recovery proceeds as planned, Osimhen will wear a forearm protective splint.
This specialized device is designed to immobilize the forearm and wrist to support the bone during the healing process. It reduces pain and prevents further damage by restricting unnecessary movement, typically featuring adjustable straps for compression and breathable padding for comfort.
To ensure he is ready for match intensity, Osimhen will need to begin training with the splint to acclimatize to its feel. Galatasaray will go the extra mile to craft a custom design that ensures maximum safety without hindering his performance levels.
