The Oyo State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the mysterious death of a yet-to-be-identified teenage boy at the University of Ibadan swimming pool.

The police spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, in a statement on Saturday in Ibadan, said the body had been deposited at the mortuary of the General Hospital, Adeoyo, Ibadan.

He explained that when detectives visited the scene, bloodstains were observed within the pavilion area, while blood was also oozing from the mouth and nose, with slight bruises on the nose.

“The case is being treated as a suspected murder, and the Command has commenced a thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“The Oyo State Police Command is aware of the report circulating in the media concerning the discovery of the body of an unidentified teenage boy at the University of Ibadan swimming pool on March 26, 2027.

“Factually, information was received from the institution’s Chief Security Officer that the body of the victim, aged about 14–15 years, was sighted on the surface of the swimming pool earlier that day.

“Detectives promptly visited the scene, where preliminary observations revealed that the body had been removed from the pool and placed beside it.

“Blood was observed oozing from the mouth and nose, with slight bruises on the nose. Items suspected to belong to the deceased, including a pair of shoes and a shirt, were found close to the pool, while bloodstains were also observed within the pavilion area.

“The body was evacuated to the General Hospital, Adeoyo, Ibadan, where he was confirmed dead on arrival and subsequently deposited at the mortuary,” he said.

The Command, therefore, urged members of the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information as investigations are ongoing.
