The Oyo State Police Command has arrested 10 suspected armed robbers and recovered exhibits valued at N100 million.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ayanlade Olayinka , who disclosed this in Ibadan on Sunday, said this was significant breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to combat violent crime and safeguard lives and property across the State.

He said operatives of the Command, acting on credible intelligence, laid surveillance for weeks before successfully apprehending a notorious armed robbery syndicate at their hideout located within the Genesis Hotel area, Challenge, Ibadan.

According to him the criminal gang, known for hijacking containers at gunpoint and diverting valuable goods, operates across state lines and was intercepted, leading to the arrest of 10 suspects at the scene.

The suspects included Mukaila Omorayo (male, 48 years), Adekanbi Adesola (male, 39 years), Ahmed Oderinlo (male, 38 years), Samuel Omoseyin (male, 53 years), Ramon Saheed (male, 52 years), Monilola Ajayi (female, 58 years), Akanbi Bisi (female, 51 years), Wasilat Abdullahi (female, 48 years), Bolaji Tanimola (male, 51 years), and Adeola Oyesina (female, 51 years).

Olayinka said a substantial cache of stolen items were recovered from the suspects, including 40 units of air conditioners, 10 washing machines, one electric motorcycle, assorted creams, seven cutting machines, fifteen packs of LED lights, twenty-five packs of furniture gum, numerous trailer spare parts, women’s hair relaxers, wigs, chin chin, as well as furniture and painters’ materials.

“The total value of the recovered exhibits is estimated ₦100,000,000.00

“The suspects have confessed to their various involvement in the crime and are currently cooperating with the investigation. Their confessions are aiding ongoing efforts to apprehend other members of the syndicate still at large,” he said.

He said the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command, Abimbola Olugbenga, commended the operatives for their professionalism, diligence, and resilience in successfully carrying out the operation.

He also appreciated members of the public for their cooperation and willingness to volunteer credible intelligence, which continues to play a critical role in crime prevention and detection.

The Command therefore urged sustained public support and partnership with the Police to ensure a safer and more secure society.

“The commissioner of police uses this medium to advise hotel operators to support the Police in the interest of public safety by providing credible intelligence on suspicious activities.

“Investigation has revealed that many criminal elements often hibernate in hotels to plan and execute their operations. Consequently, the management of the hotel mentioned in this case has been invited for questioning as part of ongoing investigations,” he said.

Olayinka assured that suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.

The Command reiterates its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property and calls on residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest Police formation.
