Former Big Brother Naija housemate, Angel Smith, has fired back at critics, claiming that a failed relationship with her co-star, Soma, led her to become a lesbian.

The reality star, who recently tied the knot with her female partner, Tumininu, in a ceremony in the United States, took to social media to set the record straight. Addressing the narrative that she “gave up on men” due to heartbreak, Angel clarified that her sexual orientation has been consistent long before her time in the limelight.

Writing on X, she stated, “The concept of people being confused that a pansexual woman can love a man and also a woman is funny.” She further emphasised that her identity is independent of any male influence, adding, “I have been openly queer before AND after I went for that show. Please never attribute my greatness to a man; he could never have made me this cool.”

Angel also called out the perceived hypocrisy of some Nigerian men who expressed homophobic views online. She pointed out that many who shame queer women are the same individuals who request “threesomes” from their girlfriends involving other women.

To back her claims, the reality star shared screenshots of tweets she made as far back as 2021, proving she had identified as queer years before her rise to fame.
