Prince Collins Oritsetimeyin Edema has officially responded to growing calls for him to contest the Delta South Senatorial seat in the 2027 general election, saying he remained focused on his current traditional and strategic responsibilities and has not taken any decision regarding a future Senate bid.

Edema, in a statement issued on Sunday, expressed gratitude to the Itsekiri Youths for Good Governance and several supporters across Delta South who had urged him to enter the race, describing the endorsement as a reflection of the confidence and hope many people have placed in him.

He said the calls were deeply appreciated but stressed that his immediate attention remained on the assignment already entrusted to him as the Sole Representative of the Olu of Warri to NNPCL and Joint Venture partners.

According to him, the role goes beyond title and status, noting that it represents a sacred responsibility to the Itsekiri people and future generations.

“At this moment, my focus remains firmly on the responsibility already entrusted to me as Sole Representative of the Olu of Warri to NNPCL/JV Partners,” Edema stated. “This is not just a position—it is a duty to our people, to our future, and to the trust you have placed in me.”

The former president of National Association of Itsekiri Graduates (NAIG) said he remained committed to delivering on the assignment given to him by the Olu of Warri, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, with integrity, diligence and measurable impact.

He maintained that he would not allow political distractions to derail what he described as a crucial mission for his people.

While acknowledging the momentum surrounding his name ahead of the 2027 elections, Edema made it clear that he has not reached any conclusion on whether to contest for the Delta South Senatorial seat.

He noted that consultations were ongoing and that any decision on the matter would be communicated directly to the people at the appropriate time.

“As of today, I have not taken any decision regarding contesting in the 2027 general elections,” he said.
His statement is likely to calm rising political speculation within Delta South, particularly among supporters who have been pushing for his candidacy in recent weeks.
Beyond his personal political future, Edema used the statement to reaffirm his loyalty to the broader political agenda of his camp, declaring total support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

He said his supporters and political structure across the country were already mobilised toward ensuring the President’s return for a second term.

Edema also pledged support for Delta State governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, insisting that continuity in governance remains critical to sustaining development in the state.

“Our immediate political task is clear and non-negotiable,” he said. “Together with my supporters and political family across Nigeria, we are fully mobilized and committed to ensuring the return of the incumbent President His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.”

“In Delta State, we are equally resolute in securing the re-election of the Executive Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, as continuity remains vital for the progress we seek,” he added.

In what may signal fresh political realignment in Delta South, Edema also hinted at plans to back a new direction for Warri Federal Constituency.

He said serious consideration is being given to identifying credible individuals who can offer stronger representation for the constituency in the House of Representatives.

Without mentioning names, he expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of representation, suggesting that many constituents have become frustrated by what they see as a lack of tangible results.

He said the objective is to build a united political front that genuinely reflects the aspirations and interests of the people.

Edema further assured his supporters that he and his team are actively consulting and evaluating the political landscape with caution and seriousness.

He said the recent calls on him to contest have not created pressure, but have instead strengthened his commitment to public service and community advancement.

“This call you have made has not pressured me; rather, it has strengthened my resolve,” he said. “It has renewed my determination to serve you with even greater courage, humility, and dedication.”

He concluded by thanking supporters for their trust and confidence, while reaffirming his loyalty to the people of Delta South.

“I remain one of you, and I will continue to stand with you,” he stated.

Edema’s response is being interpreted in political circles as a carefully measured move—one that keeps his options open while consolidating influence within both traditional and partisan power structures.

Although he stopped short of declaring ambition, his statement leaves little doubt that he remains a major figure to watch in Delta South politics ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.

For now, however, the message from Prince Collins Oritsetimeyin Edema is unmistakable: service first, politics later.
