The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced that it has attracted over 4.2 million members in its ongoing digital registration exercise, signaling strong grassroots support ahead of Nigeria’s next election cycle.

Speaking during a press briefing, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, disclosed that as of midnight on March 31, 2026, the PDP had recorded over 4.26million verified registrations, with expectations that the figure will rise million as the process continues and more members are captured.

He said, “Data on our portal indicates that our Ward Registration Agents, as at midnight of March 31, 2026, recorded a total of 4,264,675 (four million, two hundred and sixty-four thousand, six hundred and seventy-five) members. While our members are clearly more than this number, it is needful to commend those who have kept faith despite the current challenges we have faced in the recent past.”

According to the party, the milestone was achieved within a tight three-week timeframe, despite logistical and operational challenges. The PDP credited volunteer-driven mobilization and a nationwide outreach effort spanning rural and urban communities for the impressive turnout.

Ememobong described the figure as a “clear demonstration of trust” by millions of Nigerians who, he said, have remained loyal to the opposition party despite recent political defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“This digital membership registration has shown clearly that the politicians are defecting, not the electorate,” he stated.

The PDP emphasized that the growing membership base reflects widespread dissatisfaction with the current administration led by Bola Tinubu, particularly on issues of governance and security.

Breakdowns from the registration data show a broad national spread, with significant participation across regions and age groups, including a strong showing among young Nigerians. Party officials say this demographic strength further reinforces confidence in the PDP’s electoral prospects.

The party has since extended the registration deadline to April 30, 2026, to accommodate additional members and consolidate what it describes as a “resurgence” in support.

With millions already registered and more expected, the PDP said the exercise underscored its position as a formidable opposition force heading into the next general elections.
