I Am An Extremist” — Funke Akindele Opens Up On Cutting Ties With ‘Toxic’ Friends

Nollywood superstar Funke Akindele has admitted that she doesn’t hesitate to sever ties with anyone who hurts her, describing herself as an “extremist” when it comes to relationships.

The actress made this revelation during an interview on The Morayo Show on Wednesday, Her comments come just days after she made headlines for appearing to snub her colleague, Toyin Abraham, at a movie premiere an incident that sparked a firestorm of debate across social media.

When asked by host Morayo Afolabi-Brown about her reputation for loving people intensely but cutting them off completely when offended, Akindele was candid.

“I am proud of it and I’m also not proud of it,” she replied. “I am an extremist, and I am still learning to balance things. When I love, I love with everything I have. I want to push people to succeed. So, when they hurt me, I shut the door.”

The filmmaker shared that her late mother had often advised her to give people more grace, noting that not everyone possesses the same mindset or drive.
She also credited actor Uzee Usman for a recent “wake up call” regarding her leadership style.

“Uzee told me that as a leader, people are bound to get on my nerves, but I can’t keep shutting the door on everyone,”

Akindele narrated. “That message really struck a chord, and I am now working on being more patient.”

Despite her efforts to change, Akindele emphasized that her mental health remains her top priority, suggesting that while she is open to growth, she will not sacrifice her peace for toxic dynamics.
