The Middle Belt Peace Forum (MBPF) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visit to victims of recent attacks in Jos, describing the gesture as a demonstration of empathy and responsive leadership.

In a statement issued in Jos on Friday and signed by its National Coordinator, Pastor Bulus Garba, the forum said the President’s decision to postpone an official engagement in Iperu to visit affected communities reflects solidarity with the people of Plateau State.

“The Middle Belt Peace Forum commends President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for prioritising compassion at a time of grief. His visit to Jos is a mark of leadership that listens and stands with the people in difficult times,” the statement said.

The forum condemned the attacks, describing the perpetrators as “cowardly elements” bent on destabilising peaceful communities.

It called for decisive action by security agencies to curb the violence and restore normalcy in the affected areas.

The MBPF also lauded the efforts of the Armed Forces of Nigeria under the leadership of the Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, for ongoing operations aimed at restoring peace.

According to the group, the military has demonstrated resilience and professionalism in tackling security challenges across the region.

“We salute the Armed Forces for their sacrifices and commitment to safeguarding lives and property. Their efforts remain central to restoring stability,” the statement added.

The forum, however, stressed the need for stronger collaboration between security agencies and local communities, noting that intelligence sharing and public cooperation are critical to achieving lasting peace.

It also called on the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen its role in maintaining law and order in areas cleared of criminal elements.

“The police must complement military efforts by holding and securing communities to prevent a resurgence of violence,” Garba said.

The MBPF reaffirmed its commitment to peacebuilding in the Middle Belt and urged citizens to remain united and vigilant.
