A Christian woman, Madam Serah Luca, has been widely commended after returning N1 million she discovered in goods she purchased from a Muslim trader at Terminus Market in Jos, Plateau State.

The heartwarming moment was captured in a video that has since gone viral online, drawing widespread praise from netizens, many of whom highlighted the woman’s honesty and the significance of her action in promoting trust and interfaith harmony in the society.

The development happens against the backdrop of the recent sectarian crisis in Jos, the State capital.

Madam Luca, a petty trader who resides along Lamingo Road in Jos, said she returned the money out of fear of God, stressing that she could not keep what did not belong to her.

She recounted that she bought the items on Friday and only discovered the cash after returning home.

“I am a petty businesswoman. I know what it means to suffer loss. If I put that kind of money into my business, I believe God would punish me,” she said.

The trader, Abubakar Dola, who deals in polythene bags at the market, described the woman’s action as rare and deeply commendable.

“I am surprised to see her returning the money because I didn’t know where I kept it,” he said.

Dola explained that the N1 million cash was meant to be transferred through a Point of Sale (POS) terminal operator but was mistakenly placed inside a polythene bag sold to the customer.

“She came and purchased goods worth N6,000 on Friday. I had one million naira kept in a polythene bag which I was supposed to give to a POS operator for transfer, and I mistakenly put the money inside the polythene bag she bought,” he said.

According to him, he only realised the loss days later and had already given up hope of recovering the money.

“Three days later, the woman returned the money to me. I pray Allah rewards her with more than what she did for me. It’s not easy to have people of her character,” he stated.
