The new vice chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta, has expressed concern on the lack of hostel accommodation in the university.
He said at his inaugural speech as the 8th substantive vice chancellor of the university in an event that took place at the Main campus Gidan kwano, Minna, that despite that the university was established about 40 years ago, it can only accommodate 3,304 students.
Kuta described the situation as a major challenge that requires urgent attention considering the security and social challenges associated with so many students living off campus.
The new vice chancellor appealed to the alumni, friends and other stakeholders that have the means to assist the university through public-private partnership arrangements.
Professor Kuta said he would redouble efforts at improving the revenue drive through blocking all leakages and wastages to augment whatever comes from the federal government for maximum benefit.
The pro chancellor and chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Olu Obafemi, said the gathering was a by-product of a meticulous selection process that brought in the new vice chancellor and assured that they would continue to keep the flag of the university high.
Outgoing vice chancellor Prof Abdullahi Bala called on members of council, staff and students of the university to extend the support and cooperation given to him to the new vice chancellor to enable him succeed in his new assignment.
The new Vice Chancellor Prof Faruk Adamu Kuta was sworn in by the university legal officer Evelyn Usaini with council members in attendance.
