The Ekiti State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Saturday held its state congress, with more than 23 persons affirmed as state executive members of the party.

The congress, held in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, and attended by hundreds of party members, was conducted in a peaceful atmosphere without rancour.

The state congress took place at the party’s governorship candidate’s situation office located in the Ajilosun area of the state capital.

A five-member ADC state congress committee, chaired by Hon. Afolabi Akinsiku, with Mr. Gbenga Akamo as secretary and three other members, conducted the process.

In his opening remarks, the chairman of the state congress, Hon. Akinsiku, told the gathering that the party’s congress was in line with the Electoral Act and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines.

Hon. Akinsiku noted that, as politicians, the party’s approach for the state congress allows for direct primary and/or consensus mode, but the party in Ekiti adopted the consensus option, having found the leaders worthy.

He called on ADC members in the state to work seriously towards winning the June 20 governorship poll for the party.
Over 23 members were confirmed and affirmed as Ekiti State ADC executive members.

A three-man screening committee, comprising Barr. Femi Akilo as chairman, Hon. Mohammed Adamu Musa as secretary, and Dr. Chuks Ujomar as member, had earlier screened all candidates before their affirmation.

The governorship candidate of the ADC in the state, Amb. Dare Bejide; a former deputy governor in the state, Prof. Kolapo Olusola-Eleka; and other party leaders were present at the congress.
