The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced plans to stage a peaceful protest to the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Enugu over its recent decision concerning the party’s national leadership.

The development follows INEC’s refusal to recognise any faction within the party due to ongoing legal disputes and conflicting court rulings over its authentic leadership.

The commission had maintained that it would not validate any leadership structure until the judiciary provides a clear and final determination.

Perturbed by INEC’s decision, members of the ADC in Enugu State will stage a peaceful protest from Okpara Square to the INEC office on Achi Street, Enugu, tomorrow to register their dissatisfaction.

Addressing journalists on the planned procession, the Youth Leader of the ADC in Enugu State, Comrade Gabriel Uchenna Odi, insisted that the INEC Chairman was not in a position to interpret court judgments as he pleased.

He emphasized that the planned procession would be peaceful and law-abiding, aimed at drawing public attention.

The ADC youth leader in the state urged INEC to reinstate the leadership of the party and upload the names on its portal.

He advised INEC to remain independent and neutral while handling the affairs of the ADC, which he maintained is an internal matter.

He further stressed the need to give the ADC a level playing field to participate in forthcoming elections.

Odi, who spoke to journalists after a meeting of party stakeholders, warned the general public to be wary of those parading themselves as leaders of the party in the state. He noted that the national leadership of the party had issued a directive that the substantive leadership across various states remains valid until May 12, 2026.

“Today’s meeting was convened primarily to reiterate the position of the national leadership of our great party—that the substantive leadership of our party across various states remains valid until the 12th day of May 2026,” he stated.

Also speaking, a stakeholder of the party in the state, Comrade Izuchukwu Ugwu, explained that the procession, tagged “Occupy INEC,” would be peaceful.

He added that the procession is aimed at ensuring that the right thing is done by INEC.

The protest is also expected to attract key members of the party in the state.
