Abbo Denies Joining NDC, Plans ADC Exit As Adamawa Crisis Deepens

Former senator, Ishaku Abbo, has denied reports linking him to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), declaring that he is not a member of the party, as he moves to exit the African Democratic Congress (ADC) amid a worsening crisis within the party in Adamawa State.

In a statement posted on his verified Facebook account on Wednesday, Abbo addressed his supporters and political associates, noting that many of them joined the ADC to align with his political ambition.

He, however, warned that the party’s structure in Adamawa could undermine their chances in the 2027 general elections.

According to him, the ADC in the state conducted its congresses in defiance of two subsisting court orders, producing what he described as “illegal state executives.”

He argued that any primary election conducted under such leadership would lack legal backing and could be nullified by the courts.

The former lawmaker cited the fallout of the Plateau PDP court ruling 2023, where candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party lost their seats after the party disobeyed a court ruling, with candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who came second emerging as beneficiaries.

He warned that a similar legal consequence could await any aspirant contesting under the current ADC leadership in Adamawa.

Abbo noted that the Electoral Act allows politicians to switch parties until May 10, 2026, urging his supporters to remain calm as plans for a new political platform are finalised.

Drawing a parallel with developments in Senegal, he referenced the emergence of Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who won the presidency shortly after his release from detention.

“I have been out there meeting the people for about three years now, and we still have more than ten months until the general elections. We have time,” he said.
Reiterating his position, Abbo stated: “I am not a member of NDC. Wait for the weekend to know about our party.”

He added that he and his supporters would unveil a new political platform in the coming days, signaling a fresh political direction ahead of the 2027 general elections as the crisis within the ADC in Adamawa continues to escalate.
