After 20 Years Of Betrayal, Blood Isn’t Thicker Than My Peace Of Mind’ — Mr P Speaks On Okoye Family Feud

Nigerian music star and former P-Square member, Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has once again spoken on the long-running crisis within the Okoye family, insisting that blood isn’t thicker than his peace of mind.

In a series of posts on Wednesday via his verified X handle, Peter dismissed speculation that his wife played any role in the renewed family conflict, stressing that such narratives were misleading and distracting from what he described as deep-seated internal issues.

“Before you drag any woman into this! No woman directed or advised anyone to steal from what I worked for over the years. Stop pushing that narrative to suit your agenda,” he wrote.

He maintained that the dispute within the family predates their marriages, insisting the breakdown began long before external relationships came into the picture.

“None of us were even married 20-something years ago when this whole betrayal and stealing started! I said what I said,” he added.

Peter, who has repeatedly accused unnamed parties of betrayal over the years, said the experience has been emotionally draining but reaffirmed his decision to prioritise his mental wellbeing.

“Yes, it’s painful. And yes, it’s my loss. But no one should keep reminding me that I was betrayed and used by my own blood for over 20 years plus,” he said.

Reiterating his stance on boundaries, the singer said he would still have taken the same decision regardless of family pressure.

“Even if my parents were alive and supported this kind of betrayal, I’d still choose to step back, cut them off and protect my peace. Boundaries are necessary! Blood isn’t thicker than my peace of mind,” he stated.

He further revealed that the disagreement has now escalated into a legal battle.

“Now that I’ve uncovered the betrayal that has been going on for over 20 years plus, suddenly we’re blood? No… it doesn’t work like that. We are still in court!” Peter wrote.

The latest comments add to the long-standing tension within the Okoye family involving Peter, his twin brother Paul Okoye, and their elder brother Jude Okoye. Once celebrated as one of Africa’s most successful music groups, P-Square has experienced multiple breakups and reconciliations over the years, largely driven by disputes over management control, finances, and creative direction.

The group first split in 2017 after disagreements over business operations and leadership structure. Although they reunited in 2021 to widespread excitement from fans, the reconciliation later collapsed amid renewed allegations of financial disputes and lack of transparency.

The family feud has also taken a legal dimension, with Jude Okoye facing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged money laundering and diversion of royalties—allegations he has consistently denied. The matter is currently before the Lagos State High Court and has been adjourned to May 15, 2026.
