Chairman of the Interim National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, has expressed confidence that the party will produce a winning presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.

Turaki gave the assurance while delivering his acceptance speech following his appointment by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).

“I want to assure you… that PDP shall field candidates for all elective offices. We will come up with a presidential candidate who will not only contest the 2027 elections, but will win it for us and win it for Nigeria,” he said.

He thanked party leaders and members for the confidence reposed in the interim committee, pledging that the team would rise to the challenges ahead.

“I have just been appointed… to serve as members of the Interim Working Committee of our great party. Thank you so very much for the confidence you are once again reposing in us,” Turaki stated.

Reflecting on the party’s recent history, he recalled the national convention in Ibadan, noting that the PDP had overcome predictions of collapse through resilience and internal efforts.

“From a party that was struggling to stand on its feet, we fought hard to make sure that PDP remained afloat… remained irrepressible… and remains the biggest and the leader of all opposition elements in this country,” he said.

Turaki acknowledged the enormity of the task before the interim leadership but expressed readiness to deliver.

“I want to assure you… that my team and my humble self are equal to the task. We wholeheartedly accept the challenge that this appointment offers to us,” he added.

He also pledged that the party would not only participate in upcoming elections but compete strongly to win.

“We will make sure that PDP again works very hard, not only to be on the ballot, but to win all the off-season elections… and indeed, all the 2027 various elections,” he said.

Calling for unity and perseverance among party members, Turaki urged stakeholders to remain committed despite challenges.

“It’s not going to be easy, but certainly it is not impossible. PDP has done it before… and will do it this time around,” he noted.

He concluded by reaffirming the loyalty of the interim committee to the party and its mission.

“On behalf of the… interim members… I assure you of our utmost and undiluted loyalty to the party and to the cause of this nation. Working together, we shall win,” Turaki said.

The remarks come amid ongoing efforts by the PDP to reposition itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.
