The coordinating minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, has withdrawn from the Bauchi State governorship race ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing the best interest of the state and the nation.

In a video message released to the people of Bauchi State on Sunday night, Pate expressed regret over any inconvenience his decision may have caused, particularly to supporters and residents of the state who had looked forward to his leadership.

Pate appreciated his supporters across the state and beyond, assuring them of his continued commitment to their aspirations, in whatever capacity he serves.

He reaffirmed his dedication to advancing development at both the national and state levels, especially in healthcare delivery, with a focus on maternal and child health and critical surgical services.

“Power belongs to God; He gives it to whom He wills and takes it from whom He wills,” Pate said, pledging to support the emergence of a credible and capable leader who will guide Bauchi State toward greater progress.

The minister also urged youths to desist from political thuggery, violence and other social vices, stressing that such actions could undermine their future leadership potential.

He called on the people to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) in securing victory across all elective positions in the state during the 2027 elections. He also appealed to stakeholders and voters to support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term.

Pate further pledged to promote the emergence of credible candidates for elective offices, emphasising the need for leadership that will deliver tangible democratic dividends to the people.

He warned party delegates against supporting aspirants who rely on financial inducements, noting that such practices undermine democratic values and hinder genuine development.

“We will not allow the emergence of unproductive aspirants whose actions could slow the pace of progress in Bauchi State,” he said, adding that such a setback would not be in the interest of the polity.
