Prioritise Nigerians’ Welfare, Group Tells Govt

Nigerian government has been urged to prioritise the welfare of the people and address the country’s economic challenges.

The presiding bishop of the Old Catholic Apostolic Church Nigeria, Most Reverend Oluwaseun Fagbohun, who made the call, said adequately meeting the basic needs of the people is key to their making the right decision and acting rightly, even during elections.

Fagbohun spoke during the launch and unveiling of a humanitarian food bank and charity store established by the Righteous People’s Movement in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital.

He said the initiative was designed to address the economic needs of the vulnerable and less privileged, and to promote responsible voting in the upcoming Ekiti governorship election and future polls.

The religious leader enjoined residents of the state to embrace informed choices as they go into the Ekiti State 2026 governorship poll, which is less than two months away.

Reverend Fagbohun pointed out that the initiative will serve as an advocacy and intervention centre to address the social and moral challenges facing residents.

He added that it will serve as an avenue to support those in need while advocating for a more responsible, morally conscious society.

“The ‘Food Bank’ goes beyond the traditional idea of distributing food items; it operates as a ‘solution centre’ where individuals can access different forms of support, including counselling, scholarships, spiritual guidance, and financial, healthcare assistance, among others, all aimed at improving the overall well-being of beneficiaries and helping them achieve stability.

“The concept of ‘food’ within the initiative is symbolic, representing whatever form of help an individual needs. While some may require physical food, others may need educational support, health assistance, or empowerment opportunities.

The “bank” system allows people to both give and receive, creating a structured support network.

Fagbohun noted that all assistance is processed through proper registration and guided by strict operational procedures to ensure that only genuine cases benefit from the programme. He added that the initiative is supported by the Old Catholic International Missionary Society of St. Christopher and the Caritas Sustainable Development Foundation, alongside other partners.

Fagbohun, who said TRIPOM is focused on guiding citizens toward righteousness, especially during elections, revealed that plans are in the pipeline to take the programme to all 16 local government areas of Ekiti State, as well as other states, including the FCT, Kogi, and Benue.
