The health condition of Hollywood actor Bruce Willis continues to attract global attention following his diagnosis with frontotemporal dementia (FTD), a progressive neurological disorder affecting communication and behaviour.

Willis’ family first announced his health challenges in 2022, initially revealing a diagnosis of aphasia. In a later update, they confirmed that his condition had progressed to frontotemporal dementia. In a joint statement, the family said, “While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis.”

Providing further insight into his condition, his wife, Emma Heming Willis, said in a public update, “FTD is a cruel disease that many of us have never heard of and can strike anyone,” while calling for increased awareness and support for affected families.

Since stepping away from acting, Willis’ decades-long career—including his role in Die Hard—has continued to draw recognition from colleagues and fans worldwide.

Medical experts note that frontotemporal dementia remains less widely understood, often affecting personality and communication rather than memory in its early stages.

Willis’ diagnosis has contributed to growing public awareness, with stakeholders emphasising the need for more research and support systems for those living with the condition.
