The police public relations officer (PPRO), SP Odiko Macdon, while briefing journalists yesterday in Uyo, the state capital, said the suspect was apprehended by men of the Nsit Ubium local government area division.

He said: “The suspect impregnated a 13-year-old girl child and secretly procured an abortion for her, and she died in the process. The Commissioner of Police (CP), Olatoye Durosinmi, is shocked by the sad development and has ordered the matter to be transferred to the homicide section for discreet investigation.”

The CP, according to him, has warned parents to “create time and pay attention to the whereabouts and behaviours of their children, in order to prevent sexual abuses and other social vices.”

Besides, the PPRO announced the arrest of suspected armed robbers, alleged to have invaded the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) Lodge, along Udo Ekong Street, Off information Drive, Uyo, where they vandalized the doors at about 1:00am and dispossessed Corpers of their phones, jewelries, physical cash and other valuables.

He recalled that “the CP, who personally visited the scene in company of the state NYSC Coordinator, had vowed to bring the perpetrators to book, and has since then remained committed.”

Macdon, stated that the manhunt has yielded breakthrough as the Anti – Robbery Squad was able to arrest three suspects, said to have been terrorising the Aka community and environs in connection with the incident.

He listed them to include Aniefiork Okon Willie, alias ‘Akpan Efa’; Iniobong Eden, alias ‘Orok’ and Joshua Asuquo, alias ‘Sim Card’ or ‘immortal’.

“The suspects confessed to be responsible for the said robbery, made many stunning revelations including their membership of confraternity, and mentioned other members of their gang now at large”, adding that the CP has vowed to continue the trail until all those responsible are fished out.
