A governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, Dr Ayobami Wasiu Adesina, has expressed support for either consensus arrangement or primary election in the emergence of the party’s candidate ahead of the 2027 governorship poll.
Adesina stated this shortly after submitting his nomination form on Thursday, stressing that the APC in the state would follow due process in selecting its governorship candidate.
According to him, members of the party had agreed to adopt any method recognised by the party’s constitution and leadership.
“There is an agreement that it is either we agree on consensus or there is a primary. We will follow the laid down process in Oyo State just like in other states,” he said.
The APC chieftain said his ambition to govern the state was driven by the desire to improve the welfare of residents and return Oyo State to the APC in 2027.
He explained that his aspiration was rooted in progressive ideals aimed at providing basic necessities for both the rich and the poor across the state.
Adesina promised that if elected governor, his administration would prioritise stable electricity supply, quality education, healthcare delivery, water supply and food security.
He also pledged to create employment opportunities for youths and strengthen agricultural development to improve the economy of the state.
“Within the progressive camp, we believe that government must provide the basic essentials of life, not only for the well-to-do, but also for the less well-to-do,” he stated.
The governorship hopeful further said his administration would pursue independent electricity supply to boost economic activities and improve residents’ standard of living.
“We will provide jobs for the youth and ensure that our people can eat three square meals without suffering. We will also ensure that schools provide quality education and healthcare services are accessible to all,” he added.
Adesina, however, urged members of the APC in the state to remain united ahead of the governorship election.
“What I am saying to party men and women is that we need to work together irrespective of the candidate they support. At the end of the primary exercise, we must unite and return Oyo State to the APC,” he said.
