Uzor Arukwe has been crowned the Best Lead Actor at the 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) for his powerful portrayal of “Akinbode” in the fantasy epic, Colours of Fire.
In the Niyi Akinmolayan-directed film, Arukwe plays a warrior tasked with a mission to destroy a perceived monster from a rival tribe. His performance has been hailed by critics for its emotional range, as he transitions from a hardened soldier driven by tribal prejudice to a man who discovers the truth behind the lies of war through forbidden love.
The win is seen as a career-defining moment for Arukwe, who effectively carried the film’s Afrofusion theme by blending intense physical action with deep vulnerability. His chemistry on screen with co-star Osas Ighodaro was a major talking point that helped the production secure its place among the most talked-about films of the season.
LEADERSHIP observes that the acting categories have been fiercely contested at this year’s gala. With Arukwe’s major win adding to the night’s highlights, the spotlight now shifts to the final set of top honours as the 12th edition of the AMVCA draws to a thrilling close.
