Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, has revealed that the President made efforts to reconcile with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar shortly after the 2023 general election.
Bwala said Tinubu, after his inauguration, initiated moves aimed at easing political tension and promoting unity by reaching out to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate through intermediaries.
According to the presidential aide, the reconciliation effort, however, did not yield the desired outcome as Atiku allegedly did not embrace the move.
The former Atiku campaign spokesperson disclosed this while commenting on recent political realignments and coalition talks among opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 general election.
Bwala noted that Tinubu’s action reflected a willingness to accommodate political opponents in the broader interest of national stability and inclusive governance.
He maintained that despite the intense rivalry that characterised the 2023 presidential contest, the President explored avenues for post-election reconciliation to reduce political divisions in the country.
